Christmas 2013 & The Hotel Macdonald

A very different Christmas for us this year . . .. due to a lot of different circumstances, it was only the three of us and work schedules dictated that we could not plan our usual sojourn to B.C. to be with our daughter and her family. Soo it was just we three . . . quiet, good food, movie watching and naps.  Quite a change of pace from the usual hustle and bustle.

Breakfast was the traditional fare . . . Wifesaver, hash browns, fruit salad drizzled with Grand Marnier, Mimosas and Lynn’s speciality lattes.  There are just some traditions that can’t be done without!

We spent a leisurely afternoon watching movies and napping and then got ready for an ever so elegant dinner at the Hotel Macdonald.  It was everything I expected and more.  What a wonderful experience it was to have Christmas Dinner at one of the grand dames of history and for just an evening be transported back in time to olde worlde elegance.  The hotel was decorated to the nines and the service upon entering the door was personal and friendly.  You couldn’t ask for more. The food was just very tasty and so artfully presented and I have to admit to having tried some things that I had never eaten before.  New for me were the quail eggs and the caviar.

The splendid decorating of the foyer  included a gingerbread house which was a replica of the hotel and so very well created.  That must have taken quite a few hours and a whole lot of materials.

Our experience at the Harvest Room Hotel Macdonald was magical.  There is nothing quite like celebrating a wonderful occasion in a dining room of grandeur.  We have celebrated several very special family occasions here, but have never dined out for Christmas Day.

The ever so elegant entrance to the Harvest Room.
